Geography basics
Five themes
Geography is a wide-stretching term that encapsulates almost all parts of Earth and its inhabitants. To begin to understand it, experts have created the five themes of geography.
The five themes include:
Location: Location includes both absolute location (determined by exact longitude and latitude) and relative location (the general distance from one distinct landmark to another)
Place: This theme includes what it is like when you at a location including the type of environment, the type of jobs there, the types of people, etc.
Movement: Movement involves how people, goods, and ideas spread around the world
Region: Regions are a way in which to categorize a portion of Earth. Examples of regions might be by school district, climate, or population density.
Human-Environment Interaction: This includes how humans impact the environment both positively and negatively and vice versa.
